About Living in Ubud
Ubud has a very different rhythm from Bali’s beach towns. Instead of surf breaks and beach clubs, daily life here revolves around the Monkey Forest, Jalan Raya Ubud, Jalan Hanoman, and the smaller lanes that branch off toward Penestanan, Sayan, and Campuhan. For long-term renters, that means access to a mix of villas, family homes, and apartments tucked behind walls of tropical greenery, often just a short scooter ride from cafés, coworking spaces, and wellness studios. The center can feel busy around the Ubud Palace and Ubud Market, especially when tour traffic builds, but many expats choose the outer pockets for more space and privacy. Penestanan is popular for its rice-field views and easy access to the Campuhan Ridge Walk, while Sayan offers a more elevated, green setting near luxury resorts and river valleys. Around Jalan Goutama and Jalan Bisma, you’ll find a good balance of walkable dining, small shops, and a lively but manageable atmosphere. Ubud suits people who want long-term living with culture close at hand: temple ceremonies, art galleries, organic restaurants, and yoga classes all sit within everyday reach. It’s also a practical base if you work remotely, value wellness, or prefer a greener inland setting over the coast. Just remember that traffic, narrow roads, and occasional ceremony closures are part of the local lifestyle here, so choosing the right pocket of Ubud matters as much as the property itself.
