About Living in Candidasa
Candidasa sits on Bali’s eastern coastline in Karangasem, and it feels very different from the busy south. The main stretch follows Jalan Raya Candidasa, where you’ll find small resorts, local warungs, dive shops, and a handful of cafes looking out toward the sea. It’s not a place for nightlife or big shopping malls; it’s for people who value space, calm mornings, and a strong connection to the local coastline. The area is best known for its access to East Bali attractions. You’re close to the lotus lagoon in the center of town, the traditional village atmosphere of Bugbug and Tenganan, and the ferry routes and dive areas further east. Pantai Candidasa itself is more of a rocky shoreline than a wide sandy beach, but that’s part of the appeal for many long-term renters: it keeps the area peaceful and uncrowded. For swimming and beach time, many residents head to nearby spots like Virgin Beach or Blue Lagoon, both reachable by car or scooter. Monthly living here tends to suit people who want a more local, low-key routine. You’ll find everyday conveniences, but life is slower and more spread out than in Canggu or Seminyak. If you’re planning a longer stay, Candidasa offers a good balance of sea air, affordable comfort, and access to East Bali’s temples, snorkeling, and village life without the constant traffic of the south.
